Van Stipriaan Luïscius' research examines the history of new town Almere since its conception in the 1960s, particularly the under-explored 1995-2020 period, to introduce a new interpretation for understanding and categorizing new towns.

More specifically, the project explores what shapes Almere’s identity as a new town and identifies the key players in this process by focusing on the interplay between the city’s urban governance, social fabric and urban fabric. It challenges the negative perception of new towns by emphasizing their unique histories and development, positioning them as a distinct category rather than ‘incomplete projects’ in comparison to older cities.

Combining this research with his work as an advisor in urban development at the Municipality of Almere, Van Stipriaan Luïscius also aims to enrich the work of Almere's policymakers with theoretical and historical insights. The project is supervised by prof.dr. Peter van Dam, dr. Tim Verlaan and dr. Petra Brouwer.
