Enno Maessen and Tymen Peverelli at 'Werkgroep Stedengeschiedenis'
ACUH members will share insights on the relationship between national and urban identities
24 January 2020
On the 12th of February, the next Werkgroep Stedengeschiedenis will delve into the topic of national and urban identities. Enno Maessen will share his insights on the socio-cultural and physical transformations of Istanbul's Beyoğlu district during the postwar period, and how these have resulted in discursive over-determinations of the area’s identities and associations. Focusing on the nineteenth century, Tymen Peverelli will give a talk on how intellectual elites in the Low Countries turned to the history of the their hometowns to construct a suitable historical narrative. Participation is free of charge, but registration is required. The event will take place from 13:00 to 16:30 at Utrecht University.
