ACUH member Gabri van Tussenbroek discussed the history of Amsterdam's 'Palace of Popular Diligence' on radio broadcast programme 'OVT' last Sunday. The gargantuan exhibition hall, which was located on the present location of the Dutch National Bank, burned down in 1929 and thus met the same fate as London's famous Crystal Palace, after which it was modeled. Over the last 90 years, numerous voices have been raised to rebuild the Palace to no avail. In his latest book, Van Tussenbroek analyses the building's original plans and its architectural history.
