Dr. João Tonucci is an Assistant Professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. As a critical urban scholar, his research lies at the intersection of political economy, economic geography and urban planning, covering topics such as land markets, housing policies, urban commons and the right to the city in Brazilian metropolises.

While his stay at CUS/UVA as an Urban Studies Foundation International Fellow, co-mentored by both Prof. Maria Kaika and Prof. Roger Keil (City Institute/York University), he will be dedicated to writing and publishing the results of his research "Property at the margins: peripheral sub/urbanization, informal land markets and popular economies in Belo Horizonte". The fellowship is funded by the Urban Studies Foundation (UK -based).
